The Vessel

Scame on Sail Scame is a classic wooden cutter built in 1971 at the renowned Sangermani boat yard in Italy.

Since 1980, she has been sailing around the world without homeport, making more than three circumnavigations of the globe.  Gracing countless exotic destinations, from the Mediterranean, Greece and the Galapagos to Madagascar, Tahiti and New Caledonia, this timeless 72-foot boat is currently sailing in Southeast Asia.   She is fast and comfortable, her crew friendly and warm.

Sailing and surfing in the Andaman Islands of India

Sailing and surfing in the Andaman Islands of India

Andaman Surf The Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal have been off limits to tourism until only recently.  Promoted as "The Most Beautiful Islands in the World," they offer pristine scenery and wildlife.  They also offer virtually unexplored new surfing opportunities:

SURFER Magazine had this to say about their first trip to the Andamans in 1998:

"Geographically more ‘Indo'  than India, the Andaman Islands have been on many surf traveler’s wish list. Yet rigorous government efforts to restrict outside exposure to the region’s indigenous cultures have kept her wave line-ups empty - and probably will continue to do so in the years to come.... Geographic isolation, heavily restricted travel, mysterious stone age culture and totally uncharted waters - the Andaman Islands are everything you want in a surf trip."

Little Andaman, March 1999.

Free-diving, snorkeling, exploration and spear-fishing are also outstanding in these nearly untouched islands.  Areas of the Andaman Islands (and all of the Nicobar Islands to the south) remain strictly off-limits in an effort by the Indian government to protect the few remaining indigenous people who inhabit them.

Sailing in Phuket, Yachting in Thailand

Sailing in Phuket, Yachting in Thailand
and Myanmar (Burma)

Scame is available for charters in the Andaman Sea outside Phuket, Thailand, and by special arrangement, excursions can be made to Burma and the Mergui Archipelago, a chain of uninhabited islands only recently opened to tourism.

Burmese Temple.
Salon Island, Burma.

While the island areas of eastern Burma are not exposed to a surfing swell, the myriad islands are beautiful for free-diving and exploring.  Typical sights include  colorful long-tail boats of nomadic sea gypsies tending their nets and patrolling the ocean waters for fish...

A morning dingy trip up a meandering, mangrove-banked river can send startled Hornbill birds to flight, as sea eagles soar gracefully overhead.   Multi-colored coral reefs, golden Buddhist temples, and untrammeled white sand beaches will dazzle the eyes, and a visit to a simple sea gypsy village can bring smiles, curiosity and wonder to all.
